Description
The Bruneau River winds through a spectacular desert canyon with sheer basalt and rhyolite cliffs rising hundreds of feet above the boats. The canyon is incredibly narrow and colorful. Ancient juniper trees lean over the rafts as we venture by. The Bruneau consistently offers demanding boating with many rocky rapids and drops. This leads us to the famous "Five Mile Rapids" where the river descends through a spectacular series of class IV whitewater rapids with very little time between the drops! During our adventure, we will enjoy hikes into side canyons with intriguing caves and arches.

On these Bruneau River trips, you can choose a 2-3 day extension prior to the Bruneau launch on the Jarbidge River. This is a small, steep river upstream from the Bruneau with amazing scenery and two probable portages, including a new rapid, "Barker Falls," which was created by a landslide on June 3rd, 2009.

Description
The weather is impossible to predict. Client may not need to use all of the gear listed here, but it is recommended to bring it all. Plan to "layer" for maximum comfort. On the rafts, guides typically wear nylon shorts, T-shirt, cap, and sandals or tennis shoes, with rain gear and Capilene underwear, etc. (Handy in one of our day bags in case of a shower or if the weather becomes cool). Outfitter recommends QUALITY rain gear (Daytime temperatures can reach the 90s while nights can be cool. Showers can bring cooler daytime temperatures) NOTE: Wool, polypro, pile, and fleece items are important as they provide warmth when wet. Wet cotton fabrics drain heat from the body, and should not be substituted for these items.
